Course description

Master of Science in Psychology major in Clinical Psychology


The Master of Science in Psychology, major in Clinical Psychology program provides students with specialized training for the practice of clinical assessment, research, treatment, and prevention of psychopathology, with special emphasis on issues relevant to clinical practice in the Philippines.       Graduates of the program can proceed to obtain a doctoral degree. A master’s degree in Clinical Psychology qualifies them to teach in the tertiary and graduate levels, do research and clinical practice. They can work in school, clinical and community settings.


Master of Science in Psychology major in Human Development Psychology


The Master of Science in Psychology program prepares the student for professional practice in psychology, as well as for teaching, research, and consultancy in Philippine and Asian contexts.


The Human Development psychology major program will provide students with specialized training on research, theory, and practice in developmental processes across the lifespan. Students may develop sub-specializations in specific themes within human development depending on their particular professional and scholarly interests. Students can develop study themes in productive development or developmental psychopathology in specific age groups such as children, adolescents, adults and aging; or focus on values/moral development; learning, educational or cognitive development; cultural and/or biological factors in human development, among others.


This major is ideal for students planning to pursue careers as educators, trainors, human resource developers health practitioners dealing with development specialists, educational program developers and administrators, and other professionals dealing with special needs and problems of specific age groups like children, adolescents, adults, middle-aged and the elderly, in school, hospital/clinical, community or organizational setting. The course adequately prepares the students for research and further studies in Psychology.


Master of Science in Psychology major in Social and Cultural Psychology

The Master of Science in Psychology program prepares the student for professional practice in psychology, as well as for teaching, research, and consultancy in Philippine and Asian contexts.


The Social and Cultural Psychology major program provides students with specialized training in the theory and research on the role of socio-cultural factors in shaping human behavior and development. Special emphasis will be given to the epistemological and methodological issues for socio-cultural research and on the applications of social and cultural psychology perspectives to concerns related to gender, health, environment, politics, peace, business and economics, and other development issues in the Philippine setting. The major is an ideal program of study for professionals in government and NGOs, business and industry, media, churches, and other agencies who want to develop a specialization in the analysis of social psychological processes in the cultural context of Philippine realities. The major is also ideal for scholars interested in the psychology of the Filipinos.


The student who graduates from the program may proceed to obtain a doctorate degree. The program should also be able to provide adequate preparation for organizational work especially in the area of social and community development. It is also possible for the student to carve out a career in the academe, i.e. in teaching and research.

 

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS  
Previous Qualifications (Degrees, Certificates, Skills, etc) A Bachelor’s degree with 15 units of required subjects in psychology (i.e., 3 units each of general psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, theories of personality, and abnormal psychology) with GPA 2.5 or 85%
English Language Test Scores (TOEFL,IELTS)

TOEFL: 500 or IELTS: 6.0

**Note: For non- English speaking applicants, enrollment in an English language course

at the Center for English Language Learning (CELL) prior the first trimester of the program.

An additional of six (6) units of Advanced Technical Reading and Writing 1&2 will be required

for applicants with a low score in the essay part of the entrance examination
